Texas Congressman Calls for Examination of Social Security Fraud Citing The Oregonian, Republican U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady Urged a Hearing on Disability Funds Paid to Cheaters

Texas congressman Kevin Brady has called for a hearing on disability funds that have been paid to cheaters and wants to examine Social Security fraud. "We need to do more to make sure those who are able to work are not gaming the money that is set aside for those who truly are disabled," U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady said in a written statement. The congressman wants an investigation because he feels that there might be $11 billion being paid out to people who aren't still disabled. He feels that the Social Security Administration has focused the majority of its time on hearing and deciding on backlogged cases instead of investigating people that might not need the disability payments anymore.

"As such, I urge you to schedule a hearing of the Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee so that we can thoroughly examine the extent of this problem and determine ways of resolving it."
