Ex-Tribal Head of Wampanoag to Plead Guilty to Fraud

An ex-tribal leader is pleading guilty to violating campaign finance laws while he was working with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Glenn Marshall, of Mashpee, will plead guilty to five counts of making illegal campaign contributions to members of Congress, embezzling tribal funds, filing false tax returns and fraudulently receiving Social Security disability benefits. Marshall used to be the chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, which historically, its members supposedly were at the very first Thanksgiving celebration. Marshall was also accused for misusing $380,000 for personal expenses including food, clothing, his daughter's tuition, vacations, home repairs, restaurant tabs and jewelry.

The investigation had been ongoing for quite a while and Marshall decided to plead guilty to end the investigation. He tried to cooperate with investigators as much as he could but felt that this had to end now. He faces up to five years in prison and plenty of fines as well. Social Security disability fraud can bring anywhere from five to 10 years in prison.
