Former Ramapo Cop Stole $144G in Disability Benefits
A retired Ramapo police officer pled guilty to federal charges of stealing over $140,000 after he admitted to working as a security guard in Nyack schools while he was also receiving Social Security Disability payments. The officer, John Patrick Miller, and fellow officer James P. Fox pleaded guilty to Social Security disability fraud. Miller has yet to be sentenced but the statutory sentence for disability fraud is 10 years in federal prison. Miller was an officer from 1969-1991.
Miller claimed he couldn't work so he could collect disability payments from 2001 to 2008 but he worked as a security guard in Nyack schools at the same time. It is against United States law to collect disability if a person makes a specified maximum income. Miller will have to pay back every single dollar of the $144,002 he defrauded from Social Security and could also face a fine of $250,000.
