Visalia City Council to Consider Rent Control for Mobile Homes

The Visalia City Council is considering rent control for mobile homes and Thomas Alvarez just had his monthly payments of Social Security disability reduced. Alvarez was receiving $845 per month from Social Security disability after suffering three heart attacks since 1999. He pays $389 per month on rent and has a little left over for utilities and food. But now Visalia has raised his rent to $404 as of October 1, 2008 and his disability payments have dropped to $737 each month on technical grounds and now the Internal Revenue Service is requesting $2,247 in back taxes. Everything came upon Alvarez all at once.

The City Council of Visalia is considering passing a rent control program for the mobile homes in the city because rent will be raised another $8 to $412 on March 1, 2009. Everyday people have their Social Security disability benefits reduced on technical grounds. If this has happened to you it can be discouraging and confusing all at the same time.
