Woman Going to Inauguration for Mother, Son
Phillipa Porter, an adjudicator of Social Security disability cases for the Department of Human Services, is attending the inauguration of Barack Obama not just for herself but for her mother and her son; both of whom served in the United States Armed Forces. Porter's mother, Carroll Mae Edwards, served in World War II as part of the Women's Army Corps and her son, Christian Carroll, served in Operation Desert Storm. Christian was killed on February 24, 1991 in a friendly fire incident at the age of 20.
Social Security disability is getting tougher and tougher to acquire these days because claims have been getting stalled in the courts. Each judge is required to clear at least 500 cases per year and most of them aren't even hitting the halfway mark of that number.
